Egypt's Zamalek kept a clean sheet in the African Champions League for the fifth successive game to hold Nkana FC to a goalless draw in Zambia in the first leg of the competition's round of 16 on Saturday. The five-time African champions are now favourites to reach the group stage as they bid to win their first continental trophy since 2002. "Thanks God for this result, which came despite the poor state of the pitch," Zamalek manager Mido said after the game. "This is what we had exactly wanted, and now we are in a good position to reach the last eight," added the rookie coach, who is burdened with turning around the fortunes of the ailing Cairo giants. Chances were few and far between, with Zamalek holding firm to settle for a draw. Zamalek have won three times and drawn twice in five Champions League matches so far this season. They have not conceded any goal. The return leg will be played in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of El-Gouna next week. Source: Ahram Online
