A sports media training course for beginners kick-started here on Tuesday, with 12 countries, including Kuwait, participating. Co-organized by the Qatari sports media committee and the Arab Union of Sports Press, the four-day event is primarily intended to build a sports press base in Qatar. Addressing the course, the chairman of the union, Mohammad Abdulqader, said the gathering attracted a galaxy of sports media figures from different Arab and Gulf countries, urging young sports media representatives to capitalize on participating experienced lecturers. He said he was so happy to see a young female media figure from Kuwait participating in the training course in order to make use of participating experts. On his part, the head of the Qatari sports media committee, Mohammad Al-Maliki, said the course was the fruit of fervent efforts exerted by the Arab Union of Sports Press which is keen to provide press services in general. This event is part of a local program entitled: "Young Journalists" to build a national press base on which the union can rely in the future. Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of the event, Chairman of the Asian Sports Press Union (ASPU) Faisal Al-Qanai said the participation of several sports reporters and sports figures from Arab and Gulf countries will certainly contribute to the enrichment of young participants' skills. He hailed Qatar for efforts to successfully organize such a training course, hoping that his country will play host to similar events in the near future. Source: KUNA
