Head coach of Morocco’s national football team, Hervé Renard, is dreaming of topping the 2017 African Cup of Nations (CAN2017).
During a press conference ahead of Morocco’s match against Egypt, held Saturday in Gabon’s economic capital, Port Gentil, Renard said, “We have to leave our mark on the history of football.”
Following Morocco’s long-awaited achievement in qualifying for the quarterfinals after Morocco’s 1 -0 win over Côte D’ivoire on Tuesday, Renard said, “The pride that we feel after our qualification for the quarterfinals has motivated us to go further [in this tournament].We will spare no effort to make the Moroccan people happy.”
Regarding Morocco’s challenging game against the Egyptian team, which has won the African cup seven times, Renard said, “We know Egypt better. A giant team includes players who are distinguished by a competitive spirit,” calling on Moroccan players to focus and impose themselves during the match.
Egypt led Group D with seven points, while Morocco ranked second in Group C, which was topped by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
When facing each other, Morocco has beaten Egypt in 13 matches, lost twice and tied 11 times.
