The Bankers Tennis Association (BTA), one of the most prestigious tennis organizations in the Eastern Province, has organized a high-profile open tennis tournament starting on Sept. 13 and ending on Oct. 19 at the Al-Gosaibi Hotel courts. This was announced by BTA 2012 President Willy de Lara. This year, the BTA will be marking its 24th annual month-long Open Tennis Tournament Doubles Championship, and has invited all active tennis clubs and players in the region to participate in the tournament. De Lara said the tournament is expected to attract different clubs and tennis communities and players of various nationalities including local players and tennis aficionados in the Eastern Province and Central Province as well. The tennis doubles tournament is divided into four categories: Class A for Flight 2 and 3 players, Class B for Flight 4 players, Class C for Flight 5 players and Class D for Flight 6 players and beginners. There will be many surprises including the raffle draws with grand prizes on the opening and closing days. Trophies plus electronic items will be awarded to the champions and runner ups. To add to the fun on opening day, a Mixed Presidents Tennis Doubles Fiesta, featuring the presidents of the various tennis clubs in the Eastern Province, will be held. The 2012 officers of the BTA are: De Lara, president; Rey Lindo, vice president; Rey Plagata, secretary; Ross Lasala, asst. secretary; Mar Panganiban, treasurer; Eric Lara, asst. treasurer; Tony Castro, auditor; Erwin dela Vega, asst. auditor; Noel Aquino, PRO and Rene Icasiano, tournament director.
