Al Sadd secure a valuable 1-0 win over last year’s runners-up Al Hilal at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Wednesday night.
After failing to find the net in their opening day draw at Iranian champions Foolad Khouzestan last week, the Qataris took the lead when former AFC Player of the Year Khalfan Ibrahim scored in the 30th minute with a powerful finish after being played through by forward Hasan Al Haydos.
The away side continued to push for the equaliser with the game being played out almost entirely in the Al Sadd half, but the hosts were able to hold out to move to the top of Group C after Foolad and Lokomotiv played out a 1-1 draw in the group’s earlier game.
