Sporting Kansas City made it two wins out of two at the start of the new Major League Soccer season with a 3-0 victory over ten-man New England Revolution. Revolution were left with an uphill task when Stephen McCarthy was sent off after 15 minutes, and they fell behind 13 minutes later through Graham Zusi. Kei Kamara doubled the lead in the 39th minute and CJ Sapong rounded off the scoring two minutes into the second half. It put them top of the Eastern Conference, level on points with Houston Dynamo, who won 1-0 at the San Jose Earthquakes thanks to a penalty from Brad Davis in the 14th minute. In the West, Real Salt Lake maintained their 100 per cent start with a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls, with goals from Edgar Espindola and Paulo Junior. The Vancouver Whitecaps did likewise as Jay DeMerit's goal in the 68th minute saw them win 1-0 at Chivas USA. David Estrada scored a hat-trick as the Seattle Sounders claimed a 3-1 win over Toronto FC in their first match of the season, while FC Dallas against Portland Timbers and the match between Montreal Impact and Chicago Fire ended 1-1.
