German Ewald Lienen has been appointed coach of AEK Athens for the rest of the season, the win-less Greek Super League club announced on Wednesday. Press reports suggest the 58-year-old coach will receive €150,000 with an option for another season. Lienen, 58, is well known in Greece having previously coached Panionios from 2006 to 2008 and also Olympiakos in 2010. He has also coached MSV Duisburg (1993-1994), Hansa Rostock (1997-1999), FC Koln (1999-2002), CD Tenerife (2002), Borussia Monchengladbach (2003), Hannover 96 (2004-2005), 1860 Munich and Arminia Bielefeld (2010-2011). Lienen replaces Vangelis Vlachos who was fired last month with historic and financially-troubled AEK going through its worst start ever having won just two points in the Super League in six matches and rock bottom of the table.
