Leeds midfielder Robert Snodgrass scored a late equaliser that forced Championship promotion rivals Cardiff to settle for a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday. Cardiff were on course for an important win when Joe Mason put the visitors ahead in the first half, but Scotland international Snodgrass bagged his second goal of the season with 18 minutes to play. Leeds remain in seventh place, two points outside the play-off places, while Cardiff stay one point behind Simon Grayson’s side in ninth spot. Mason had capitalised on a Darren O’Dea error to score his third goal in as many games in the 17th minute. O’Dea was winning his race with Mason as the duo chased down a through-ball, but he hesitated over clearing and Mason was able to steal possession with a shove on the defender before rounding goalkeeper Paul Rachubka to score. Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall made some fine saves to keep out Snodgrass, Ross McCormack, Adam Clayton and Jonny Howson. Meanwhile, Liverpool boosted their push for a top-four place after first-half goals from Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll secured a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Adam scored a ninth-minute penalty at the Hawthorns before Carroll made certain of the three points in first-half injury-time as Baggies manager Roy Hodgson failed to mastermind a repeat of last season’s triumph over his former club. Following draws against Manchester United and Norwich, it was a first Premier League victory in three games for Kenny Dalglish’s team, who are now seven games unbeaten in all competitions and up to fifth, within a point of third-placed Chelsea.
