Bernard Casoni has resigned as coach of mid-table Ligue 1 side Evian after two years in charge. The 50-year-old, a member of the Marseille squad that beat AC Milan in the 1993 UEFA Champions League final, had been told by the board a few days ago that despite leading the club to two successive promotions and a respectable 11th place so far this season he would not have his contract renewed this June. Casoni, who was capped 30 times by France, nevertheless turned up for training on Monday to bid farewell to his players. "It was the least I could do, we have experienced together some extraordinary moments, I could not leave without saying goodbye to them," said Casoni, who has coached the Armenian national side among other teams. It was announced later that, as expected, 44-year-old former Nancy coach Pablo Correa would replace him.
