Two indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity awards have been given by the U.S. Army to the Harris Corporation for wideband tactical radio systems. The Soldier Radio Waveform applique systems, which will deliver tactical voice and data, are for installation in vehicles and will expand the service's tactical communications network. "The network remains one of the Army's highest priorities," said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "Our SRW appliqués deliver cost-effective SRW communications in vehicular applications, connecting the soldier at the tactical edge to the network. "The appliqués also address space challenges in Army vehicles that are unable to accommodate larger, man pack-based solutions." Four companies have been awarded the contract with a potential value of $988 for Soldier Radio Waveform appliques. In addition to Harris, Exelis has also won a place on the contract. Exiles said its initial offering on this contract is its Side Hat, a radio for vehicular use and for easy integration with SINCGARS, the primary tactical communications backbone for the U.S. Army. SINCGARS with SideHat and SRW, the company said, provides a communications solution with as many as four channels. Copyright 2014 United Press International, Inc. (UPI).
