Dr. Ibrahim Al-Fiky, Egyptian Human Development Cairo - Marwa Yahia Dr. Ibrahim Al-Fiky, Egyptian Human Development Expert, stressed the opportunity of the Egyptian revolution to open the gates of a better future. The current period is for adaptation and profound changes must be endured, he stated, adding "it is, then, natural to find a state of confusion". Arabstoday interview with Dr. Ibrahim Al-Fiky went as follows: AT: Which is the best way to benefit from young energy erupted in the wake of the January Uprising? IF: Human development is the energy of nations. A young man shall have the efficiency that comes through knowledge to turn it into a skill. The revolution has sparked intellectual and physical energy, and our role is to use them. It is normal to feel confused now in this state of adaptation, but I think the energy we have will set a better future. AT: How much can a person benefit from human development programs? IF: Human development aims to teach the meaning of human relations. To benefit from it is to learn planning, goal setting and reaching, and the art of communication. We should also separate between man and his behavior, and avoid judging people. AT: What are your future human development projects? IF: First, I am working on setting agreements between human development centers and universities, to reach young people. In the past, this was not allowed by the government, so I had to do them individually. I am convinced that human development should be available for youth groups. I also intend to do the same with trade unions, chambers of commerce, companies and institutions to reach the whole nation. AT: Have you ever suffered failure? IF: This is a normal human feeling, but I've learned to evaluate situations, deal with them, and use them to push me further, and this is what I motivate people to do. AT: How do you think consecutive successes can be achieved? IF: Success and failure are two parallel powers. If a person does not fail sometimes, they would never know the taste of success. AT: What are the keys for success ? IF: Among success factors are motivation, patience, imagination, innovation, and personal and professional skills; one shall always work to develop their skills. People should also be flexible and learn from their mistakes. AT: In your opinion, what personality traits leads to successful? IF: A person shall maintain a good relation with God Almighty, have morality, and have a sense of belonging to their home, family, humanity, and workplace. I believe an independent person is capable of ingenuity and innovation as long as they have a sense of belonging, as it helps them to be number one. AT: What do you have to say to governments when it comes to youth development? IF: First, management should be cooperative, because you cannot manage something afar, but you have to listen to those under you. There should be more room for conversation and opinion exchange. Second, promises shall not be made unless they are planned and ready for being implemented. Government officials should talk to people directly and follow up on their issues.
