As Dubai’s art scene continues to flourish and with the annual Art Dubai set to make its mark on the City again, the Capital Club, Dubai’s premier private City Club and member of the ENSHAA group of companies, prepares to offer its Members a unique discussion on the value and authenticity of art - ‘In conversation with Geertje Foth – Paintings, Contemporary Art and Polychromed Sculptures’.
During the DIFC Art Night, March 16th, Capital Club will be welcoming the community, Members & guests as well as acclaimed art expert Geertje Foth.. The internationally recognised painting conservator will discuss the pre-purchase-examination methods of paintings - and the increase in value - while sharpening the eye of the audience through physical demonstrations of her 20th Century painting analysis.
Emma Cullen, General Manager of the Capital Club, commented, “The Club’s location in DIFC not only places it in the heart of Dubai’s financial community, but also at the nexus of its growing art scene. We are very pleased to be able to offer our Members a chance to learn more about the subject in a discussion forum.”
An accredited member of the German Association of Restorers (VDR), Geertje Foth opened her studio in 1991 in Hamburg, and has over a quarter of a century’s worth of professional and practical experience as a senior conservator and restorer of fine art. While her primary work comprises the conservation and restoration of compositions for a variety of private and public clients, from prominent art dealers to museums and cultural heritage monuments in Germany and abroad, her training courses in the field of preventive conservation for employees of art handling companies - such as private collections, art dealers or auction houses - are in high demand. These lectures cover the conditions necessary to keep priceless pieces protected and intact, such as the correct handling, hanging, packing, transport, storage, proper lighting, room temperature and humidity.
Giving credence to her adage and first concern ‘As much as necessary – as little as possible’, the art conservator will divulge detailed preservation, conservation and restoration techniques, emphasizing the value that art market experts accord to sensitivity and restraint in this regard. Her hands-on approach should also inspire private collectors and art enthusiasts alike to restore their own paintings, affording them personal pride and ensuring the pieces as heirlooms for future generations.
The Geertje Foth talk at Dubai Capital Club will be hosted two days before the opening day of the ninth edition of Art Dubai. An annual fair in March, Art Dubai presents a select yet diverse line-up of around 90 galleries from the UAE and around the world, across three programmes: Contemporary; Modern - devoted to masters from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia; and Marker, a curated section of art spaces that focuses each year on a particular theme or geography.
