The Iraqi presidency on Sunday deplored attacks launched by groups of protesters against the parliament and its members.
In a statement, the presidency issued no decisions on the political situation upon which a state of emergency was announced after hundreds of supporters of influential Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr stormed Baghdad’s Green Zone.
During a meeting held on Sunday, Iraqi President Fuad Masoum, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi asserted support to the security apparatuses.
According to the meeting, political factions agreed to intensify talks and discussions to guarantee a radical reform would be achieved at the political level.
