The Brazilian government Sunday condemned a terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey on the early morning of the day, leaving at least 39 dead and over 40 others wounded.
"The Brazilian government condemns the attack carried out this morning in the city of Istanbul, which killed at least 39 people and injured dozens of others during a New Year's celebration," said a statement from the foreign ministry.
The statement also reiterated Brazil's "firm rejection of all acts of terrorism, no matter their motivation."
"The Brazilian government expresses its condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims, and to the people and government of Turkey," it added.
The attack happened when a gunman opened fire shortly after midnight in the Reina nightclub in Istanbul. The perpetrator is still at large.
