Al Azhar mourned Thursday the victims of a sunken boat in Giza that left more than a dozen people dead and injured, including women and children.
In a statement, Al-Azhar urged the officials to swiftly outline an urgent strategy to prevent the re-occurrence of such tragic incidents, hold perpetrators accountable, and publicly publish the outcomes of investigations.
The highest Sunni institution worldwide offered its condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery for the injured people.
The Islamic Research Academy also mourned the victims.
The incident took place late Wednesday when a passenger boat traveling down the Nile near el Warraq city in Giza collided with a barge, causing the boat to smash and capsize, leaving several dead and injured.
