Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb strongly condemned the murder of a priest in a terror attack on Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray Church near Rouen city in northern France.
In a statement on Wednesday, Tayyeb said those who carried out such barbaric attack are stripped of their humanity and have nothing to do with the tolerant values and principles of Islam.
He renewed calls for unifying efforts to fight terrorism that threatens the whole world and international peace and claimed the lives of innocent people.
Tayyeb also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to French President Francois Hollande and Archbishop Dominique Lebrun over the victims of the attack.
