From the event Beirut - Arabstoday In light of the exclusive partnership between Longines and the renowned Meydan Group, the Swiss watchmaker was the official timekeeper for the Dubai World Cup, titled the World’s Richest Race. The last race before the official world cup race on the day, the Sheema Classic presented by Longines, boasts a grand prize of US$ 5 million and is among the richest races run on turf. Lending the event an even greater touch of glamour and charm, Longines’ Ambassador of Elegance Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan awarded the “Most Elegant Lady” with a Longines Saint-Imier Collection timepiece. Held at the Meydan racecourse and classified as a “Group One flat race” for thoroughbreds over the age of four, the World Cup race spans a distance of 2000m and is one of the most closely followed races in the world, putting the UAE on the international equestrian map. Offering a thrilling racing experience to equestrian enthusiasts, the final race was won by Monterosso. All the winning jockeys, owners and trainers were bestowed with stunning models from The Longines Saint-Imier Collection, which was the official watch of the event. The Sheema Classic presented by Longines was won by Cirrus des Aigles. Longines’ President Mr. Walter von Känel presented the Sheema Classic French winners with their awards. Dedicated to horses but also celebrating style and elegance, the occasion was witness to another anticipated activity, the presentation of the “Most Elegant Lady” title to a lucky winner. Honoring some of the most stylish women, the competition has been eagerly awaited by fashionable set and is a matter of prestige. Women wearing astounding hats and stylish dresses paraded to get a chance to win the title. The Longines Ambassador of Elegance and Bollywood Star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan awarded the winner of the “Most Elegant Lady” title, Carolyn Coe, with a model from The Longines Saint-Imier Collection in steel and gold. Longines, celebrating its 180th anniversary in 2012, is presenting in Dubai this series of exceptional timepieces named after the company’s birthplace.
