Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Wael el-Degwy agreed on establishing a joint PhD degree by the universities of Alexandria in Egypt and Alabama in the United States in the areas of civil engineering and biomedical engineering.
Vice president of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research Dr. Seddiq Abdul Salam said Sunday that the university is interested in cooperation with prestigious international universities to get maximum benefit from international partnerships, noting that cooperation with international universities comes to serve the goal of achieving excellence and quality in education and scientific research.
It also assists in the development of curricula and programmes of the university to be able to attain world recognition, he added.
He added that a student under this programme spends a year at the University of Alexandria and two years at the University of Alabama and gets a doctorate degree from the two universities together.
The programme is funded by the department of scholarships and it will be effective as of the 2014/15 academic year.
