Egypt's former Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa has underscored the importance of countering violent extremism through education.
"Education is a significant method to counter violent extremism and defeat the spread of terrorism," he said during a meeting with Mufti of Dagestan Ahmad Haji Abdulaev.
Gomaa stressed that the true understanding of Islam would help curb the extremism.
The former mufti expressed readiness to provide assistance to Dagestan Muslims.
