Walid Jumblatt says Middle East is a 'volcano' Beirut - Georges Chahine Head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), Walid Jumblatt has said Middle Eastern stability rests on the situation in Syria, adding that "the continuous bloodshed doesn’t serve the interests of any party." After his meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Jumblatt said that Russia's proposed solution for peace in Syria is "good," but expressed reservations about implementation, describing the Middle East region as a "volcano." He stressed that the continuation of the Syrian crisis will lead to more devastation and destruction, adding the is hopeful of Russia's involvement in the donors conference for displaced Syrians to be held in Kuwait later this month. Furthermore, Jumblatt emphasised the importance of the agreement of international parties on the principles of the solution to the Syria conflict, even though the situation "is complicated." Jumblatt said that his discussions with Lavrov revolved around the issue of helping Lebanon overcome the repercussions of the Syrian crisis. Speaking about domestic politics, Jumblatt urged parties in Lebanon to respond to the invitation of the President Michel Sleiman for dialogue, adding that "no one party in Lebanon can eliminate the other."
