Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Cairo - Mohamed Al Dawi Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Salwa Moufid, has met with the ambassadors of Asian countries to clarify recent events in the country, she told Arab Today on Friday. Moufid said she met with the ambassadors recently and explained that the new interim government was working to implement a roadmap to carry the country through the transitional period, paving the way for amending the constitution and holding parliamentary and presidential elections. The Egyptian official told the ambassadors the government, led by interim President Adly Mansour, was committed to achieving democratic change and national reconciliation, without excluding any political parties. Critics see the army-installed government as seeking to marginalise the Muslim Brotherhood, not least because authorities have warned its supporters to end ongoing demonstrations calling for the reinstatement of ousted president Mohammed Morsi. Moufid also discussed efforts by Egypt's government to explain the country’s current situation to the international community. The Asian ambassadors responded by expressing their support for the Egyptian people, and hope that they would overcome current challenges. They emphasised the need for national reconciliation and renouncing violence.
