The prominent Palestinian figure, Mohammed Dahlan Gaza - Mohammad Habib The prominent Palestinian figure and member of the Legislative Council, Mohammed Dahlan, called for a broad Palestinian, Arab and international solidarity campaign with the Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails "who are at the forefront of the national struggle of the Palestinian people, and who are morally defeating the the Israeli occupation through their hunger-strike." Dahlan said, in a statement issued on his Facebook page, that "the prisoners' initiatives, whether collective or individual, requires national backing and support, in various forms that contribute to deterring the occupation and protecting the prisoners from their barbaric conditions, as they are war prisoners who should be dealt with in accordance with the Geneva Convention." He called on the international community to push for the release of the prisoners, including main Palestinian figures such as; Marwan al-Barghouthi, Ahmed Saadat, as well as the leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who are detained in Israeli jails. Dahlan lashed out at the official Palestinian leadership, describing them as "powerless", and "unable to meet the requirements of national liberation to unite the Palestinian people behind their national causes." He also accused the PA of being "politically disoriented, as well as converting its own crises to a national one, while it lacks any political will to attack the Israeli right-wing government led by Binyamin Netanyahu, which has turned its back to all the chances of political settlements." Dahlan warned that the Palestinian leadership inability: "will cause national disasters as well as pose serious repercussions on the Palestinian national project." Dahlan expressed his disbelief at the lack of a national strategy, based on political partnership between all the national powers, saying this partnership would be supported by the Palestinian people, who are the main guarantee against the permanent Israeli blockade, whether on a political, financial or security basis. The former Fateh official sent his greetings to the prisoners' families, as well as to all the Palestinian people, for their brave support towards the prisoners, and called for this support to turn to a non-stop popular movement until every single Palestinian prisoner is freed from Israeli jails. Dahlan added that the proper response Israeli aggression, is to restore the national unity, as well as taking practical steps towards the implementation of the Cairo agreement, beginning with the immediate release of all political detainees in the Palestinian prisons. Dahlan also called for the promotion of fundamental media freedoms, in addition to stopping any violations to the law, and to respect the Palestinian people's will through holding legislative and presidential elections, by which the people will set their new leadership.
