Touati was candidate in 2009 presidential elections Algiers – Sufian Si Yusuf Moussa Touati, the head of the Algerian National Front (FNA), asked Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to make a decision regarding his political future. In recent times the poor health of the president has become a contentious issue. Touati stressed that Algeria deserves to be under “clear and responsible” command. In an interview with Arabstoday Touati, who was a candidate in 2009 presidential elections, said: “the issue of the health status of Bouteflika is not new. He is not stable, and he must bear the responsibility given to him by the people." Touatoi added that Algeria deserves to be in the hands of a “clear and, permanent leadership.” The National Front demands the formation of a transitional authority to “rebalance the constitution,” which according to Touati, has “lost its credibility.” The front also asks that all elected councils participate in reorganising the Algerian House of Representatives, and that adjustments be made to the legal system in consultation with the Algerian public. Although Touati said that Algerian authorities will not want to organise early presidential elections, explaining that the authority wants Bouteflika to complete his term as president which will expire in April 2014. “The parliamentary system should be closer to the people,” suggested Touati.
