Miss America 2010 Rima Fakih Washington – Amira Ajlouni Miss America 2010 Rima Fakih, a US citizen of Lebanese origin, was arrested Saturday in the state of Michigan on the suspicion that she has been driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Associated Press. Fakih's attorney, Doraid Elder said that Fakih was “upset and very apologetic for the situation she has put herself in”. However, People magazine's website stated that Rima Fakih wrote on her Twitter page “Let's clear things up now. ... I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih”. The same statement was on her Facebook page, however both statements were removed from both pages Saturday evening. Elder stated that his client at the time of her arrest was driving her friend’s car, and that she decided to take over since her friend was too drunk to drive, according to Detroit Free Press. The attorney said that the date of the hearing of Miss America’s case has not been specified yet. The police did not mention any details of the arrest. Rima Fakih is the first American of Arab origin to win the Miss USA title. The young woman, if convicted, faces 93 days in detention and a fine, in addition to the possibility of obliging her to do community work.
