At least five people were missing and thousands of homes were destroyed as Typhoon Nepartak hit eastern China, Xinhua news agency reported Sunday.
The typhoon, which has since been downgraded to a tropical storm, led to more than 400,000 people evacuating their homes in six cities, including in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province.
The deadly storm had battered Taiwan on Friday and Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring dozens.
Fields, villages and urban areas in eastern Chinese provinces were flooded in the storms, and power supplies were cut in some remote areas, Xinhua reported.
The country's meteorological agency reported sustained winds of more than 100 kilometres per hour. Five airports were closed and some 400 flights were cancelled, it added.
