Two militants and two civilians were killed Thursday during an encounter between rebels and security forces in India's Jammu and Kashmir state, police said.
The incident took place in Padgampora village of Pulwama district. State police chief said the rebels were suspected of being members of a Pakistan-based militant group.
One civilian died after he was hit by a stray bullet, he said, adding that another was injured in clashes with security forces near the site and later died.
The clashes erupted when local people tried to stop the security forces from moving towards the militants' hideout, India Today television channel reported.
