An Iraqi female reporter was killed on Saturday in a bomb explosion while covering the clashes between the Iraqi forces and Islamic State (IS) militants in the western side of Mosul, a Kurdish television reported.
Shifa Gardi, who works for the Kurdish Rudaw TV, was killed and her cameraman Younis Mustafa was seriously injured in the afternoon when a roadside bomb detonated near them as they were covering the advance of the security forces to liberate the IS-held neighborhoods in southern Mosul, Rudaw channel said.
The Iraqi Journalists' Syndicate said in its latest report that up to 14 Iraqi journalists were killed in 2016, and more than 455 journalists have been killed in the country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
Iraq is considered one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, who have been frequently targeted by the chaos and insecurity since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that toppled former leader Saddam Hussein.
