The Belgian police has identified the two suspected ISIS bombers who attacked the international airport in Brussels as brothers who had police records but until now had not been linked to terrorism, according to Belgium’s public television network RTBF.
Citing police sources, the network said brothers Khalid and Brahim El Bakraoui had been positively identified from images captured on a surveillance camera at the airport shortly before they detonated their bombs Tuesday morning.
The third suspect in the airport attack, who was seen pushing a luggage cart at the airport next to the brothers, was still at large Wednesday morning.
Khalid El Bakraoui had used a false name to rent an apartment in Brussels where police killed a suspected terrorist in a raid last week, the network said. If confirmed, that would link Tuesday’s twin attacks on in the Belgian capital city to November’s terror attacks in Paris.
The twin explosions at the airport and another at a metro station on Tuesday left about 34 dead and 250 wounded. Belgium is observing three days of national mourning. A minute's silence for the victims will be held at midday.
