Two militants of the Islamic State (IS) group were killed after a NATO-led coalition forces' drone struck a vehicle in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial government said on Sunday.
"Two Daesh (Arabic acronym for IS) suicide bombers died following a drone strike in Baandar, an area in Achin district late on Saturday," it said in a statement.
They were moving in a car bomb and they tried to assault the district's police station before the raid, it noted.
On Thursday evening, the U.S. military dropped a GBU-43 or Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb, on an IS cave complex in Achin, killing at least 94 IS militants besides destroying a militants' hideout, three caves and 300-meter-long tunnels.
The province, with Jalalabad city as its capital, 120 km east of Kabul, has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces, Taliban militants and IS fighters over the past years.
More than 1,900 IS militants, several Afghan security forces and two U.S. soldiers have been killed in Achin and neighboring districts since early 2015 when IS emerged there, according to Afghan military officials.
