Khan (L) beat Julio Diaz in April London - Arabstoday British boxer Amir Khan is planning to fight IBF world welterweight champion Devon Alexander in Dubai later this year, British newspaper Daily Mail has reported. Khan, an Olympic silvermedallist and four-time world champion, is looking challenge Floyd Mayweather, and believes he has to beat Alexander in an eliminator before he can challenge the P4P king. Khan's US-based promoter Richard Schaefer told Daily Mail talks are underway about a December showdown in Emirates. "Amir needs one fight at welterweight, along with a title, to set up the match with Floyd. He is getting that chance against Devon, who has agreed the fight. We will be finalising and signing the contracts in the next couple of weeks. "We have opened discussions with the ruling family of the Emirates who have made it very clear that they are keen to put on a major boxing event. "This is very exciting for Amir and all of us. If he defeats Devon, preferably in style, the next step for him would be against Floyd," Schaefer added. If the proposed fight goes ahead, it would be the first high-profile professional boxing fight in the UAE since Chris Eubank took on Camilo Alarcon at Dubai's tennis stadium in 1997.
