US military forces conducted six airstrikes in Syria and a separate 14 in Iraq using fighter, attack, and remotely-piloted aircraft on Islamic State (ISIL) insurgent group targets on Wednesday through Friday.
The attacks were conducted using attack and bomber aircraft, announced Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF OIR).
In Syria, five airstrikes near Kobani destroyed six ISIL fighting positions and a heavy weapon. Near Deir Az-Zour, an airstrike destroyed three vehicles, an excavator and struck an training camp belonging to the terror group.
In Iraq, four airstrikes near Al-Qaim destroyed four checkpoints, four armored vehicles, four bunkers, five fortifications and struck a tactical unit belonging to ISIL. The attacks also included targets across major Iraqi cities Kirkuk, Samarra, Mosul and Fallujah.
Near Kirkuk, three airstrikes destroyed an ISIL-occupied building, two vehicle IEDs and struck three tactical ISIL units. Near Samarra, two airstrikes destroyed an ISIL fighting position and struck two tactical ISIL units. Near Tal Afar, two airstrikes destroyed two ISIL bunkers and an ISIL fortification.
Near Mosul, two airstrikes destroyed 11 ISIL bunkers, nine heavy weapons, an ISIL vehicle and struck two ISIL units. Near Fallujah an airstrike struck a tactical ISIL unit.
Operation Inherent Resolve is the US-led operation to eliminate ISIL alongside coalition nations.
Those conducting airstrikes in Iraq include, among others, Britain, Australia and France, while those in Syria include Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
