The international border dividing Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan here was calm Wednesday, according to Indo-Asia News Service.
"There has been no firing from Pakistan anywhere in the Jammu region today," a senior police officer told IANS
He added that the Border Security Force (BSF) was on high alert and was monitoring the situation on the border in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts
The Pakistan Rangers fired at BSF posts in Kathua Tuesday evening and the BSF retaliated, the officer added
More than 10,000 residents of border villages in Samba and Kathua have moved to makeshift camps following indiscriminate shelling of the civilian areas by the Rangers since Sunday.
"These people are still in makeshift accommodation. They will remain there till the situation on the border stabilizes," said a senior official of the Jammu administration.
The BSF guards the international border while the army is deployed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir
