Turkish police arrested an Iranian national in connection with violent demonstrations in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, Zaman daily reported Wednesday. According to the Turkish newspaper, the Iranian national was suspected of playing a provocateur role in a peaceful environmental protest at Gezi Park in Istanbul. The police reportedly arrested some 15 foreign nationals across the country in connection with violent demonstrations and most of them have turned out to be members of the Iranian intelligence. According to the investigation, those Iranian nationals were believed to have links to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. On Monday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted on foreign meddling into protests. He said that Turkish intelligence officials were working to determine whether there was any foreign link to the ongoing protests.
