Algeria is "Africa's driving force in terms of concrete and effective actions aiming to eradicate the root causes of conflicts," said Tuesday Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra.
"As an influential country of African Union (AU), Algeria, which has always favoured peaceful solutions to conflicts, is among the five pioneer countries that are fully fulfilling their role in the fight against the root causes of conflicts," Lamamra told APS on the sidelines of the 25th ordinary session of the AU Executive Council in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
He emphasized that "Algeria has always contributed, given its long experience, to make the parties to conflicts accept peaceful solutions, and to find solutions to the different crises taking into consideration the specificities of each conflict."
"Terrorism has become a cross-border scourge in Africa, hence the need for the AU to set up mechanisms to fight this scourge, said the Foreign minister, underlining that "the ongoing efforts to strengthen AU's role in the fight against terrorism, including the drawing up of an African list of terrorist movements and organizations, and considering the possible issuing of African arrest warrants against people involved in terrorism cases."
Lamamra also stressed the need to make every effort to achieve these objectives and projects that will allow Africa t be in the vanguard of the fight against this scourge.
"Africa's development depends mainly on the achievement of stability and the promotion of the governance system," said Lamamra, adding that "all AU's activities will aim to achieve its development plan 'Agenda 2063', which was adopted in the last AU Summit in Addis Ababa in January.
He underlined that Agenda 2063 will encompass all development fields in the African continent, including the institutional, political, security and economic aspects.
The Foreign minister invited the participating countries in the 25th session of AU Executive Council to present, in writing, their proposals on this subject.
