Israeli warplanes carried on shelling Gaza on Thursday evening, claiming more victims, as resistance groups in the Strip launched a barrage of rockets on Israel. Medical sources in Gaza put the number of Palestinians killed in the Israeli aggression that entered today its 25th day at 1,422 people.
According to the Gaza sources, the Israeli raids on various parts of the Strip today claimed the lives of 80 people today; 260 others were injured.
The Israeli army said that more rockets were launched from Gaza on Israel Thursday evening, injuring 11 soldiers and settlers.
Eight Israelis were injured when a mortar shell hit Eshkol, less than an hour after a 30-year-old man was moderately wounded this afternoon when an apartment building in Kiryat Gat suffered an indirect hit and two people were wounded in the incident, a military spokesman told Radio Israel.
Israel had announced today summoning 16,000 of the army reserve to take part in the Gaza operation, the spokesman said. This raised those summoned for the aggression on the Strip to 80,000 since it started on July 17.
In the meantime, the Izz-Eddin Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas military wing, said its fighters killed three Israeli soldiers in clashes today on the outskirts of the Toffah area, east of Gaza. It added that it had targeted Ashkelon with 10 Grad rockets in two separate attacks, in addition to firing more rockets 107 on two Israeli settlements. Six Al-Qassam mortars hit Israeli military vehicles and troops east of Shujaia district.
Meanwhile, victims of the Israeli massacre that struck the Shujaia neighbourhood yesterday rose to 24 people, as a journalist died from sustained injuries in the attack that targeted a popular market in the area. More than 200 people were injured.
Journalist Mohammed Daher, who worked for the Gaza-based Al-Resalah media corporation, died of injuries he had sustained in the Shujaia attack, spokesman of the Gaza Heath Ministry, doctor Ashraf Al-Qedra told reporters. The toll is likely to increase as many had critical wounds, he added.
Al-Quds Brigades, military arm of Islamic Jihad, also said that it had fired rockets on Ashkelon. It also hit Israeli military vehicles and troops east of Jabalia, and a military post east of Gaza.
