Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and newly-appointed Envoy of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to Tehran Rimond Nakozi stressed the need for both sides to pave the ground for the materialization of their long-term joint plans in the agriculture sector.
Speaking in a meeting with the UN official in Tehran on Saturday, Zarif underlined teh significant role of FAO in equipping and development of agriculture, fishery, environment and water management, and hailed expansion of FAOˈs collaboration with Iran in all fields.
He further added that Iran is ready to strengthen cooperation, participate in regional projects and exchange information with FAO.
Nakozi, for his part, called for Iran's contribution to FAO projects.
FAO is a subsidiary of the United Nations (UN) and its main objective is to achieve food security for all to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.
FAO’s three main goals are the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition; the elimination of poverty and the driving forward of economic and social progress for all; and, the sustainable management and utilization of natural resources, including land, water, air, climate and genetic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
