The EU has strongly condemned the attacks by unidentified assailants on UNAMID peacekeepers on October 11 in El Fasher, North Darfur, and on October 13 near El Geneina, in West Darfur, in which one Zambian and three Senegalese peacekeepers were killed and one was wounded. "EU High Representative Catherine Ashton calls on the Government of Sudan to take swift action to investigate the incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice," said her spokesman Michael Mann in a statement. Ashton continues to be deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Darfur, it noted. "These latest attacks on UNAMID underline the need for a comprehensive and inclusive peace in Darfur and across Sudan," it added.
