Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday sent a congratulatory message to the 58th general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) underway in Vienna, expressing China's enthusiasm for promoting cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog in future.
Li said that since China joined the IAEA 30 years ago, the two sides have always maintained close cooperation, yielding fruitful results in the fields of nuclear energy, nuclear research and nuclear safety, and contributing greatly to the promotion of safe and efficient use of nuclear energy worldwide as well as nonproliferation.
He said the Chinese government is striving to promote green, cyclic, and low-carbon development, and build a beautiful China.
"We stick to promoting energy conservation, controlling the total volume of energy consumption, optimizing the energy structure, increasing the proportion of clean energy, and developing nuclear power generation on the basis of safety," the Chinese premier said.
China is ready to work with the IAEA and other member states to expand the sphere of cooperation, promote the level of cooperation, and jointly deal with challenges and advance the cause of peaceful use of nuclear energy by mankind, he added.
