China on has reiterated its support for Argentina's sovereignty claim to the Malvinas Islands, urging "a peaceful, fair and proper solution" to the issue, Xinhua news reported. Wang Min, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, made the remarks at a meeting of the UN's Special Committee on Decolonization on Malvinas Islands, which approved a resolution calling for a "peaceful and negotiated settlement." "The issue of Malvinas Islands is in essence a historical colonial issue. China has maintained a consistent position on this issue," Wang said. "We will continue to support Argentina as always in its right of sovereignty over Malvinas Islands." The Chinese envoy noted that resolving territory dispute through peaceful negotiations, in accordance with the spirit of UN Charter, is an important principle that should be followed and promoted by the international community. China hopes that Argentina and the United Kingdom will continue to conduct constructive dialogues over the issue in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN, in order to find as soon as possible a peaceful, fair and proper solution," Wang said.
