Minister of Finance Hany Kadry Dimian has said Egyptian customs will meet international standards adopted by World Customs Organization (WCO) to facilitate trade exchange and combat smuggling.
During a meeting with WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, Dimian said the government has taken measures to improve the status of Egypt in the WCO that will help Egypt lure more investments and open new career opportunities.
The minister said Egyptian customs tariff take into consideration international trade standards adopted by the WCO.
The WCO official visited Egypt at the invitation of the Director General of Bahrain Customs Mohamed Al Khalifa in his capacity as Vice-Chair of the North of Africa, Near and Middle East (MENA) region.
He participated in the MENA regional meeting held in Cairo on 2 February to discuss the follow-up to the Policy Commission's deliberations in December 2014.
He presented the way forward in respect of several key areas: implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement through the WCO's Mercator Programme; performance measurement; the regional Strategic Plans and regional structures; and the procedures for the elections to the WCO Director posts at the upcoming Council sessions.
