The government in Egypt is keen on taking all necessary measures to counter smuggling operations, Trade and Industry Minister Mounir Fakhri Abdel-Nour has said.
Abdel-Nour said his Ministry is acting to guarantee below-standards goods do not tap the Egyptian market.
The Ministry is also working to remove all obstacles facing exporters and importers, Abdel-Nour said during a visit to the General Organization for Exports and Imports Control (GOEIC) HQ at Cairo airport Tuesday.
He said upgrading the control system is one of his top priorities.
The control system, Abdel-Nour said, is the "safety valve" that guarantees the welfare of Egyptian consumers.
The minister praised the role played by the GOEIC to apply quality standards to all imported and exported products.
