Bahrain's State Minister for Information Affairs Samira Rajab said Monday that news agencies remain a main source for the news in locally and globally.
Rajab made her remarks during a discussion panel, "morality and efficiency in news agencies' work," organized by the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), in presence of chairmen and directors of Arabic news agencies, a number of diplomats in Bahrain, editors-n-chief of Bahraini newspapers, and Bahraini media officials.
"News agencies are not just media institutions that provide the society with news, but they also integrate within the State's security media perspective, resisting the flow of inaccurate news, and transmitting accurate ones instead," said the Bahraini senior official.
Their role is not only limited to transmitting news items, but also enlightening public opinion towards false news, in addition to their role in maintaining speed and accuracy in news transmission, said Rajab.
The panel is part of the upcoming 42nd General Assembly for Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), set to kick off Tuesday, and was attended by Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Duaij Al-Sabah and Dean of the diplomatic corps, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bahrain Sheikh Azzam Mubarak Al-Sabah.
