Syrian actor Rashid Assaf appears to be single-handedly keeping Syrian dramas afloat. The star is juggling three new drama series, meaning his Arab fans have more than enough to look forward to next season. Assaf recently wrapped on the series The Confused, directed by Samir Hussein. At the same time the actor told Arabstoday that he his preparing to take part in a new drama called Girls Collar. Not satisfied with two programmes, Assaf plans on travelling to Egypt next April to shoot a series on Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of the Hamas movement. He added that the series will not be political, but will focus on Sheikh Yassin’s personal life. Assaf said: “Sheik Ahmed Yassin had a life full of events that should be explored on differently levels.” The star passionately asserted that Syrian drama is able to maintain its position in the Arab programming stakes through the crisis the country is currently experiencing. He told ArabsToday in an exclusive interview: Syrian television drama has a solid foundation. Its presence is maintained on satellite channels and it will continue to do well despite the conflict.” Assaf also expressed his satisfaction with the series he starred in last year, Flees Time. He went on, saying: "The work was outstanding across the series. It was very well received by Syrian and other Arab viewers.
