Janet Jackson has a new album in the works. The 48-year-old singer last released Discipline in 2008, and vocal producer and engineer Ian Cross tells Barefoot Sound the star is back in the studio and working on new music. Cross collaborated with Jackson on her last three studio albums, and will help engineer the upcoming record.
"Janet and I had a bit more of a special relationship because we became friends naturally," he shared. "You meet a lot of people and you become friends with a couple of them, but sometimes there is one person you become really good friends with."
"The Janet Jacksons of the world can't just spend their time in one studio in one city anymore," he continued. "We've been working in Qatar. We've been working in Paris, the Middle East, and now we feel like we can work anywhere ... The new album is going to be great. It's a process. There's a lot in store, yet to come."
Jackson married Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana in 2012, and the couple moved to Saudi Arabia in 2013. The singer has sold over 140 million records in her career, and became a billionaire in 2013.
