Robert Pattinson still speaks to Kristen Stewart, despite the cheating scandal that eventually contributed to their break up.
The famously tight-lipped 28-year-old actor has starred in a number of small independent films since he rocketed to stardom with the first Twilight film in 2008.
But he told The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview that he's still in touch with his co-star and ex-girlfriend.
When he was asked if they still talk, Pattinson said, simply, "Oh, yeah."
Pattinson and Stewart were a staple in gossip magazines since they started dating during filming on the five-installment franchise. They broke up when Stewart was caught kissing her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. After a brief reconciliation, they broke up again in 2013.
Though he wouldn't discuss the specifics of the affair, Pattinson also said that the marketing machine behind the YA vampire series often overwhelmed him.
"Everything changed when they did the marketing, and the general public started to view [the films] in a different way when they started to push the 'team' aspect of it," Pattinson said. "It was like, 'I'm on Team Edward or Team Jacob.' That saturated everything, and suddenly there was a backlash. Whereas with the first [film], there wasn't a backlash at all."
That could be why he's starring in smaller films and working with directors he admires. Next up is The Rover, a film that earned a standing ovation at Cannes.
