Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa stressed the royal support to all efforts and initiatives aimed at boosting global peace. He pointed out the royal calls at international gatherings to exert more efforts to promote peace, co-existence and security by adopting programmes to end all crises and conflicts, bolster growth and achieve the sustainable development goals endorsed by the United Nations.
Marking the International Youth Day 2017, which is celebrated under the theme “Youth Building Peace”, Shaikh Nasser emphasised Bahrain’s keenness to back efforts and initiatives to foster global peace. He underlined the farsighted and peaceful royal vision which turned Bahrain into a cornerstone in achieving international peace given the kingdom’s glorious civilisational history of peaceful co-existence, openness on other cultures and civilisations, adherence to values of justice and tolerance, protection of Arab and Islamic heritage and contribution to the humanitarian civilisation.
Shaikh Nasser said marking the International Youth Day by the United Nations is a global recognition of the vital role of the youth in supporting sustainable development in the world and achieving global peace. He added that there is a growing certainty of the need to engage youngsters in the peace and security agenda as they are a key element in building peace and its sustainability. He described the youth as the main catalyst of peace, stressing the wonderful role they can play in solving conflicts and building a comprehensive and just peace between all countries.
Shaikh Nasser underlined the importance of availing of the potentials of the youth who account for more than half the world’s population and who are equipped with knowledge and technology and the capability to change and create. He asserted the need to direct the youth’s potentials to building peace and ending conflicts. “For success of the youth’s participation in the peace process in the world, there must be clear mechanisms for their participation in solving conflicts by playing a real role in the peace process,” he said, calling on countries to accept their visions in order to end violence and extremism and promote integration, social justice, sustainable peace, peaceful co-existence and religious freedom.
Shaikh Nasser called on Bahraini youngsters to assume their responsibility and interact with their counterparts from all over the world to shape the future of the world through peace, security and active participation in fast-tracking development and ending wars and conflicts.
