Yemen's Deputy Minister of Human Rights, Mohamed Mohsen Askar, commended Qatar's support for his country in all circumstance and crises, a position that he said is the norm from Doha.
Speaking to QNA on the sidelines of his participation in the International Conference on Human Rights Approach to Conflict Situations in the Arab Region, which concluded Tuesday in Doha, Askar said the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights is keen on enhancing cooperation and partnership with Qatar's National Human Rights Committee in order to boost human rights issues in Yemen.
Askar said any initiative to settle the conflict in Yemen that does not establish permanent and comprehensive peace in Yemen will only be a repetition of past mistakes and may open the door to further conflict.
He added that the immunity granted to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the past was a mistake and any political initiative that attempts to give immunity to the Houthis and Saleh by involving them in a national unity government before holding them accountable would be repetition of the first mistake that led the country to a devastating war.
The Yemeni official said the legitimate government is ready for peace and is urging the international society to pressure the coup perpetrators to end it and compel them to comply with the international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.
Askar called on all international organizations to move their Yemen offices to the temporary capital in Aden for their safety and to facilitate their work in Yemen. He noted that some international reports were severely unfair due to being influenced by some local staff who were not honest in reporting the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
