Unicef has officially asked that the new Tunisian Constitution, which is currently being drafted and should be completed in the autumn, safeguard children's rights. The 'Rights and Freedom' commission of the Constituent Assembly has listened a number of times to the opinion of Unicef experts including Sadok Belaid, who has been charged by the UN agency to draft an article to present to the Assembly, Tunisian news agency Tap reports. The article provides for the creation of an independent public institution charged with ensuring the correct application of laws concerning the rights of minors and with receiving individual and collective lawsuits.
