Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani
New York - Arab Today

The State of Qatar affirmed that it will not hesitate to support any resumption of serious negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel, which would lead to peace on clear bases and a timetable for the two sides to live side by side in peace and security according to the two-State solution and the establishment of the Palestinian State based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This came in a statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the UN Security Council Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East and the ‘Palestinian Question."

The State of Qatar has spared no effort to achieve peace and stability in the region and will continue its policy and cooperation with the international parties in this regard, recognizing the dangers of the conflict in the Middle East within its conviction that peace needs all political and humanitarian efforts, the Ambassador said.
There was no longer any doubt that the achievement of peace in the Middle East has great positive consequences for resolving the complex crises facing the region, first and foremost the elimination of terrorism, Ambassador Al-Thani said .
She noted that this long and painful conflict had confirmed that the success and promotion of opportunities for peace requires abandoning the imposition of a fait accompli policy, procedures and policies contrary to international law, which undermine the efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East.
Implementing international legitimacy resolutions and responding to initiatives to achieve this goal is a strong basis for the success of international efforts, she said.
The State of Qatar recognizes the responsibility of all States and act in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to promote international peace and security and to meet new challenges. It therefore firmly believes that achieving peace in the Middle East is subject to the commitment of the parties concerned to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy in good faith and implement a sincere cooperation in accordance with the foundations and criteria agreed upon by the international community to reach a just and comprehensive settlement of the Middle East issue, she went on saying.
On the other hand, Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani confirmed that the chemical attack on civilians in Khan Sheikhoun has revealed not only the extent of the Syrian crisis and the plight of the Syrian people over the past six years but also the international community's failure to lift their suffering and end daily reality of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The State of Qatar, while renewing condemnation in the strongest terms of this act revealing the humanitarian atrocities in Syria, supports the U.S. military operations carried out against military targets used by the Syrian regime in conducting attacks on innocent civilians.
The State of Qatar renews its call on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the crimes committed by the Syrian regime and to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to international justice, the Qatari diplomat stressed.
The chemical attack on civilians in Khan Sheikhan has once again confirmed that the current situation in Syria constitutes a great threat to the international community, she said.
Taking into consideration the continued failure to achieve a final solution to the Syrian crisis and the insistence of the Syrian regime on committing flagrant violations of international law through attacks against civilians, civilian targets and humanitarian convoys; the adoption of a policy of forced displacement and demographic change along with the growth of terrorism, the situation in the Middle East has seen significant deterioration resulting in dire consequences for the sovereignty of Syria, its territorial integrity and the unity of the Syrian people, Ambassador Al-Thani said.
