President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday asserted Egypt's support for Lebanon to be able to overcome the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.
At a meeting with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, the president urged the international community to extend assistance to Lebanon to empower the government to shoulder the burdens of hosting refugees on the Lebanese soil, said President Spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef.
The president, meanwhile, welcomed the visiting Lebanese premier expressing appreciation that his visit to Cairo is the first outside Lebanon since he assumed his office.
The president expressed desire for promoting joint cooperation; especially after the important visit paid by Lebanese President Michel Aoun to Egypt last month, added the spokesman.
The president also appreciated the role undertaken by PM Hariri in hammering out a rapprochement among the different components of the Lebanese people, said the spokesman. President Sisi underlined Egypt's full support for political stability in Lebanon.
For his part the visiting premier expressed appreciation for the status of Egypt in the Arab region. He also highlighted strong relations between the two countries, added the spokesman.
The meeting took up several issues of common concern including recent regional developments, said the spokesman. President Sisi confirmed that Egypt and Lebanon are siding with one another in their battle against terrorism and extremism, added the spokesman.
Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail attended the meeting.
